"Take Care Online!"
If you are connected to the net - remember those little wires shoved into the back of your computer? - then
Surfing the net without using virus, anti-spyware or firewall software installed is like unprotected sex.
Sooner or later you'll pick up a problem.
DON'T DO IT! | you need to be aware of the security implications.
These days there is always someone who is out to take advantage of you and what better way of doing that than getting into your unprotected computer.
I don't mean that the little green man from Cyberspace will physically climb down your Internet line and get inside of your computer!
But someone can launch an online attack, take control of it and use it at their whim or send you a virus that will trash all your data!
Right from the early days of computers viruses have been a problem, starting with the schoolboy pranksters and now the sophisticated criminal gangs who are looking to prey on any vulnerable online computer.
Such attacks can take the form of Phishing... viruses... spyware... malware... worms... trojans etc.etc........
It's enough to make you want to rip out the Internet wires and throw in the towel! But don't worry, whilst this may sound alarming there is no need to panic!
There are plenty of solutions to the problems i.e. programs you can run on your computer that will block these attacks, but the most important thing is for you to be aware that someone, somewhere is trying to steal from you.
Do you walk down the street with a big wad of cash in your hand?
No of course not, you'll end up being robbed if you flash your cash to everyone. You take simple precautions like hiding the money in a pocket - what's that old saying? Forewarned is Forearmed!
The same applies to surfing the Web, if you are aware of the threats then you are better able to take precautions.
"What Threats are There on the Internet Anyway?"
There are many threats on the internet just as there are many threats to you at home or on the streets of your town or city.
Unfortunately it is in peoples nature to be lazy and take the easy way or be greedy and
|
Thugs usually prey on the weak or underprepared.
Often these are new or first time users who may be sceptical of their salesman trying to sell them yet another program for their recently purchased computer.
| want money irrespective of how they get it. You need to...
...Become aware!
Don't get me wrong, whilst you do need all the protection you can get, being aware of what is happening out there in Cyberspace is probably more important than all the latest protection programs.
Only once you are aware of the threats will you be able to take the precautions you need.
Online Threats
The most common types of attacks are listed below but the Internet is a rapidly changing community and new attacks or variations of them are constantly appearing so you have to keep abreast of what is happening and make sure that any protection you use is up to date.
